🚨 Important Update for Students Planning to Study in the USA 🇺🇸
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a final rule introducing significant changes to F, J, and I visa regulations. These changes are expected to take effect 60 days after publication in the Federal Register and could impact both future applicants and many current international students.
Here's what students should know:
✅ End of "Duration of Status (D/S)"
Students will no longer remain in the U.S. under the traditional D/S system. Instead, admission will generally be granted for the duration of the academic program, up to a maximum of 4 years.
✅ Extension of Stay (EOS)
Students who require additional time to complete their studies must apply directly to USCIS for an Extension of Stay. Universities will no longer manage this process internally.
✅ Additional Compliance Measures
Extension applications will involve biometric collection, background verification, and enhanced fraud-prevention checks.
✅ Grace Period Reduced
The post-study grace period is proposed to be reduced from 60 days to 30 days, giving students less time to transfer institutions, change visa status, or depart the U.S.
✅ Stricter Academic Change Rules
Additional compliance requirements will apply to academic and program changes under the new framework.
