As part of the International Education Going for Growth Plan, the New Zealand Government is planning to introduce new work visa options and enhance existing post-study pathways to better align with the country’s evolving workforce needs.

New Short-Term Graduate Work Visa (From Late 2026)
  • Introduction of a 6-month Short-Term Graduate Work Visa
  • Applicable for students completing NZQCF Level 5–7 qualifications who are not eligible for the Post-Study Work Visa
  • Students must have completed at least 24 weeks of full-time study in New Zealand
  • Excludes English language, foundation, and bridging programmes
 
Updates to Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV)
  • Eligibility extended to Graduate Diploma holders who also hold a Bachelor’s degree (including overseas degrees)
  • Visa duration aligned with the length of the Graduate Diploma, up to a maximum of 1 year
